Bio
Mona Stout has held healthcare support positions since B.C. (Before Computers) including front-office duties for a plastic surgery practice, data entry coordination in a clinical laboratory, pathology department secretary/transcriptionist, executive assistant to the VP of Human Resources for a major regional healthcare provider in Colorado, and most recently full-time acute care hospital transcription as a home-based employee for over 18 years.
A mid-career departure from the medical world into high-tech manufacturing at a missile systems company, supporting the occupational health and safety department just as Right-to-Know laws went into effect, broadened her experience to include OSHA regulations and worker's compensation.
She is a freelance writer on a variety of topics, and is available as a guest contributor to journals and blogs. Her articles have been published in JAAMT (professional journal of the former AAMT) and she contributed a series of thought-provoking, gently humorous guest editorials to her local newspaper (The Telegraph, Alton, IL) at the turn of the 21st century.
Currently facing imminent loss of her transcription position due to outsourcing, and not quite ready to throw in the towel and retire just yet though her profession as she knows it appears on the verge of extinction, Mona is taking a fresh look at how best to translate her talents into new opportunities while also conquering her fear of the unknown. This blog -- her fourth -- was, in part, created to explore that journey.
